I saw one of these on Craigslist for $800, and I've been looking at the
smaller body sized guitars lately. Anybody here own one? This model has
been discontinued by Martin, but their link is still available.

I haven't actually viewed or played this particular one yet; curious if
there were any "gotchas" with this model. (The Micarta fretboard is a
non-issue with me.)

Thanks,

Ed,

I don't own one of these, but I've played several. In my
experience, they are consistently pretty darn good.

I do own a 000-16, without the cutaway, gloss top, or
electronics. I like it a lot, and for a long time it was my
"go to" guitar just sitting around the house because it's
very comfortable, and plays and sounds great.

Be aware that these 16-series 000s are sort of odd ducks for
Martin in that they have a long (25.4") scale and the
fingerboards are 1-11/16" at the nut (i.e., the same specs
as a Dread). 000-18 and higher have short (24.9" scales).
Looked at another way, it's the same thing as an OM, except
the fingerboard width and string spacing.

If the guitar is in good condition, this is a fair price.

Joe

I've played a couple of standard 000-16s and like their plain vanilla sound,
which is good for things like fingerstyle acoustic blues. - A nice round
well-balanced tone without much character. By way of comparison I also like
the 000-15, and own a D-16. It there had been a 000-16 around when I bought
the D-16, I would likely have got it instead.

they play and sound ok
my friend has one
it had serious finish and electronic issues, and the neck joint slipped,
martin would not warrentte the repairs
it spends alot of time in the case now
I can not speak for the entire output for this model
just the one I have personal experiance with

Like Joe, I have a similar model an OM-16GT, gloss top, but no cutaway,
or electronics, and also discontinued. I also find it becoming my go to
guitar. It's light, comfortable, and it's got a pretty good sound. I
added a K&K mini to it. In all, I'm quite fond of the 16.

Ed. I have played one in a shop. and thought that it was excellent for
the price (and that isn't a concealed put down). A very comfortable
guitar to play, good tone.

That's an interesting statistic, and it doesn't even include special models
built with 16 series technology. This proliferation of models isn't confined
to the 16 series, and it isn't confined to Martin (have you ever tried to
count how many current Fender strats there are?), and I doubt it is confined
to guitars. CFM IV was trained in business, not musical instrument making,
and he seems to have adopted the Japanese approach (all products) of more
models, more sales.

I wonder how a comparable list of the traditionals would look over the same
time span?
