Post by ChuckPost by Sheli AardenSoooo...I was talking to my friend last night who I knew was selling
his Washburn J28SCEDLM. He's in a Johnny Cash Tribute band. I looked
at it a while ago and loved the sound.
So last night I asked him if he still had the guitar for sale. He had
brought it to the Colt's Neck Custom shop on consignment, but he'd
really love for it to be played around by one of us local songwriters.
I decided today I'd go down and pick it up.
It's perty and has a great sound.
And it has a new home.
So...that's my GAS story.
Sheli
Congrats Sheli. I was in Canada this week and came home with a guitar as
well. It's a Tanglewood (Fred Pierce bought one early in 2006), solid
mahogany all the way around, very similar to a D-18. I'll share the
adventure and experience with the group later on, but it was a once in a
lifetime opportunity I couldn't walk away from. I'll see you soon and we
can try each other's new guitars out.

Is it the TW15-ASM? Looking forward to hearing about it. I wish my
dealer would get more than a couple of models at a time, although I
guess it's better if he doesn't 8-)
Also congrats to Sheli. I succumbed not long ago too. Not sure it's
GAS in my case, since it was long-term premeditated.

Fred - yes, it's the TW15-ASM. In my write up, give me a couple of weeks or
three, I'll sum up this guitar and a bit more on their re-entry into the US
market. I'll try and post some pics online sooner. As a side note, I met
with the folks at Musiquip, great people and very serious about their
business. I'll include that info. in my soon to be written summary.
How's your Tanglewood DLX treating you, comments please!

Great! It's the first "good" guitar I've owned, so not much basis for
comparison, but I'm happy. I had been playing a Yamaha 12 and a Martin
OOM and not getting along all that well with either one. The
Tanglewood convinced me that it wasn't all my fault. I do believe
going from a 12 to a 6 is a lot more difficult than the other
direction, i.e. I'm having to learn to place my fingers *on* the
strings, not just somewhere near them.
I think that might account for the slight buzzing I get from time to
time. George and Norm didn't seem to have the problem. Only other
complaint is that I find I bend the strings, especially the B,
unintentionally. Not having played a lot of nice guitars, I'm not sure
how much is me and how much the instrument. I suppose I could try
mediums on it.
In any case, I had told the dealer to let me know when he got one of
the TW55-12-NS-B 12's in, and he did, and I did. The catalog didn't
indicate that it had electronics but it does.
It came with lights and I've never ventured beyond standard tuning
(though I plan to put the Yamaha to use in that when I get a chance).
They're both great fun to play.
Now I'm curious about their parlour and baby guitars...
