Soooo...I was talking to my friend last night who I knew was selling
his Washburn J28SCEDLM. He's in a Johnny Cash Tribute band. I looked
at it a while ago and loved the sound.

So last night I asked him if he still had the guitar for sale. He had
brought it to the Colt's Neck Custom shop on consignment, but he'd
really love for it to be played around by one of us local songwriters.

I decided today I'd go down and pick it up.

It's perty and has a great sound.

And it has a new home.

So...that's my GAS story.

I'm sure that Johnny Cash tribute bands play in DADGAD all the time.
It's probably not been tuned to anything else for years...

Congrats Sheli. I was in Canada this week and came home with a guitar as
well. It's a Tanglewood (Fred Pierce bought one early in 2006), solid
mahogany all the way around, very similar to a D-18. I'll share the
adventure and experience with the group later on, but it was a once in a
lifetime opportunity I couldn't walk away from. I'll see you soon and we
can try each other's new guitars out.

Sheli: Cool. I'm guessing this is Michael Patrick's guitar. (?) Hope
we get to see it tomorrow. Norm may be coming so it's your call....

Chuck: Also cool. I really like Fred's guitar a lot. Best of luck.
You'll be getting mail soon about an upcoming Brendapalooza.

Is it the TW15-ASM? Looking forward to hearing about it. I wish my
dealer would get more than a couple of models at a time, although I
guess it's better if he doesn't 8-)

Also congrats to Sheli. I succumbed not long ago too. Not sure it's
GAS in my case, since it was long-term premeditated.

Fred - yes, it's the TW15-ASM. In my write up, give me a couple of weeks or
three, I'll sum up this guitar and a bit more on their re-entry into the US
market. I'll try and post some pics online sooner. As a side note, I met
with the folks at Musiquip, great people and very serious about their
business. I'll include that info. in my soon to be written summary.

How's your Tanglewood DLX treating you, comments please!

Great! It's the first "good" guitar I've owned, so not much basis for
comparison, but I'm happy. I had been playing a Yamaha 12 and a Martin
OOM and not getting along all that well with either one. The
Tanglewood convinced me that it wasn't all my fault. I do believe
going from a 12 to a 6 is a lot more difficult than the other
direction, i.e. I'm having to learn to place my fingers *on* the
strings, not just somewhere near them.

I think that might account for the slight buzzing I get from time to
time. George and Norm didn't seem to have the problem. Only other
complaint is that I find I bend the strings, especially the B,
unintentionally. Not having played a lot of nice guitars, I'm not sure
how much is me and how much the instrument. I suppose I could try
mediums on it.

In any case, I had told the dealer to let me know when he got one of
the TW55-12-NS-B 12's in, and he did, and I did. The catalog didn't
indicate that it had electronics but it does.

It came with lights and I've never ventured beyond standard tuning
(though I plan to put the Yamaha to use in that when I get a chance).
They're both great fun to play.

Now I'm curious about their parlour and baby guitars...

Rave reviews on the parlours. Here's one for an example ...

http://tinyurl.com/2qvd2u

Take note of the headstock logo in the photo. The Boston Symphony Orchestra
operates the Tanglewood Music Center and Tanglewood/Musiquip has redesigned
the headstock to eliminate the name and so going forward there will be the
scripted T in place of the name. I like it better, there's a simple
elegance about it.

Gas struck again today, I've acquired an Epiphone Masterbilt slope dread
(spruce top, rosewood back and sides). I think I've got my tonewoods
covered, now I have to learn to play better! Back to the new babies!

Fred.

I have trouble bending notes in a chord (unintentionally) when I play
electric with REALLY light strings, but not with my usual
11.15.20.30.40.50 on the acoustics, a change in guage does take a little
adjustment though (you not the guitar, although sometimes the guitar too).

Curiosity about small guitars is dangerous, I've had my parlour for
almost three year now, have just bought one that is even smaller, and am
planning another shortly.

Find what? Tanglewood guitars?

tanglewoodguitars.com

I've been getting mine at J.V. Music in Berryville, Va -
http://www.jvmusicstore.com/index.php - proprietor's name is Steve
Hajnos.

I was glad to read Chuck's comment that they would be improving their
U.S. network. Right now there's not much communication and their
mailing list form didn't work for me. Steve gave me the phone number
of their local rep but I've not gotten around to calling him yet.

That's a fair distance... too bad they don't have a (more) local dealer. I
also wish some of the newer companies would list a bit more when it comes to
specs... scale lengths, bout sizes, nut widths, etc. Of course if they
ever get it right, I'll probably find something else to want. (grin)

Find what? Tanglewood guitars?
tanglewoodguitars.com
I've been getting mine at J.V. Music in Berryville, Va -
http://www.jvmusicstore.com/index.php- proprietor's name is Steve

(grin)
Ed
Ed - I'm responding through Google Groups as my provider seems to be
having problems. E-mail me at chucksears1 at cox.net with the area
you live in, or better yet send me your phone number and I'll call
you. I met the Vice President of Musiquip (represent Tanglewood in
North America) and I'll call him for dealer names, or a rep name.

Ed and I are in the same neighborhood - Ballmer/Columbia Md so
probably the same dealers and rep that I have. Maybe we should do a
conference call. Anyway, I'll zap you my info too.

Sheli
Sheli, it is good to hear from you. I hope things are going well for
you and yours.

I like your friend's attitude that he'd want his guitar out and about
being played in public. I am glad you will be letting the guitar sing
along with you instead of it sitting in a case in a corner of a closet
in the back of the basement stairwell. <g>

Seconded. I was wondering where you'd been.

There is, of course, something to be said for being too busy to keep
in touch!

Sheli,

Wow, I was just thinking of you not an hour ago as we drove back from shopping.
Then you post this!

Glad you are enjoying the new tool. All your ups and downs of late, you needed
something for fun! :-)

Just ckecked the specs. Looks pretty, and I see it has B-Band electronics.
One of the best plugged-in sounds I have tried recently was an Ibanez fitted
with a B-Band. it should be a great guitar for gigging with, in both looks
and sound, but will the audience be able to see you behind it?.

Welcome to the club, I succumbed recently, and am going to do so again
shortly.

More details of the second one in due course.
