Hi.

My Dad asked if Elena and I would play/sing a song at my Mom's
memorial service. But I'll be damned if I can think of a song that
feels appropriate. Too sad, too happy, too pop, too this, too that,
too whatever?!? Anyway I'm trying to gather some song ideas... If you
have any suggestions, please share, (I know I know, it's a tough one).
She was 89, liked Tony Bennett and piano...

Thanks!

Here's a friend of mine (and many of us who are Swannabees) doing a
guitar arrangement of the tune. This was just posted the other day,
so it was on my mind.

Bill Hammond is a talented, funny fellow. Lots of us EC'ers know Bill
from Swannanoa and the legendary Beatles jams at the gym there.

My deepest sympathies on losing your Mom, Richard. Not Tony
Bennet either of them, but I'd suggest "Over the Rainbow" and/or
"Amazing Grace".

I'm real sorry about your Mom Richard.

I just tried doing a search on the internet and on the binary groups
since I don't know that much about Tony Bennett's songs but I wasn not
able to come up with much to help but I thougt the beginning of
"You're All The World To Me" was nice but after that ????? And "Blue
Velvet" seemed like a nice song.

I would think that singing her favorite song would be good even if it
doesn't seem like an appropriate song for a memorial. You could just
announce that you are doing it because it was her favorite and
everyone would understand.

I wonder if Tony ever did a cover of the Beatle's song "In My Life"?

Hang in there,

David

Good thoughts, David. The Guitar Guy has several Tony Bennet

The Lord's Prayer is nice, but difficult.

I second Amazing Grace.

Thank you all for your kind words. And suggestions too - we actually
know some of those songs.

I realize this has been an RMMGA thread before, thanks for bearing
with me bringing it up again.

Richard,
I just played/sang Over the Rainbow at a burial service.
It seemed to be very well received and the feedback I got was that the song
was appropriate for the situation.

Good luck and my thoughts are with you.

Hi

My Dad passed two weeks ago. At the funeral my sister-in-law did
"Morning Has Broken", then the three of us (she, my brother, and I)
did "Amazing Grace". And I closed with "Lovely Cruise" by Jimmy
Buffett, the most perfect goodbye song ever.
