Paul Simon on Colbert Report

Paul Simon was on The Colbert Report a few minutes ago. He was plugging his
new book and joked with Colbert.

At the end he did a very nice version of American Tune. He was playing what
looked like a Martin 00-45, but I couldn't be sure. Anybody recognize the
guitar?

I really liked the way he performed that song.

Is it my imagination, or is he looking more and more like Mel Brooks all

Thanks for posting that, Steven. I had gone to the Colbert website and
watched the episode only to find the Paul Simon part edited out for
some reason.
Nice perfomance, beautiful guitar, Paul is looking a little rough
around the edges these days. There's alot of that going around.

listening to that performance reminds me, once again, of the man's
greatness, as a songwriter, singer, and musician. i truly believe him
to be the least appreciated of the pantheon of popular icons. maybe
because his work is so tough to cover (an impediment shared with joni
mitchell), but i rarely hear folks do much of his best songs--even
when i hear the best at the ec gatherings, and similar level talent
locally.

just try to pick your top five simon songs. it took several tough
decisions to come up with mine:
america
american tune
april (come she will)
the boxer
still crazy after all these years.

lordy, lordy. think i'll wander down to the dvd store for a

I see that Sam Bush was the Mandolin picker in the second video. He is
a damn fine musician also. He is great on Mando, Fiddle or Guitar. I

I've also heard her say that he is among the top 50 bluegrass
musicians of all time. I usually scoff at such rankings because music
is so subjective but it's hard to imagine him not being in most
people's top 50 bluegrassers .

My favourite among his albums is "The Paul Simon Song Book".

Just him and a guitar doing 14 songs.

I am a rock
Leaves that are green
A church is burning
April come she will
The sound of silence
A most peculiar man
He was my brother
Kathy's song
The side of a hill
A simple desultory philippic
Flowers never bend in the rain
Patterns
I am a rock
A church is burning

He can flat COVER a Paul Simon song, leaving no loose ends hanging out.

Seconded....

I don't know whether this has been mentioned other than a few short
mentions on the Texas thread but Chris has a CD avaiable for the paltry sum
of £10. This includes a couple of Paul Simon covers.....Under African Skies
and Something so Right.......

Highly recommended.

Simon's a drunk. Something else you 2 pricks have in common.
