I am new to guitar and I am looking for a good axe that will last me
for many years. Can anyone advise as to the pros and cons of these two
guitars?

I can get the Breedlove for $450 from a local dealer.

I dont really need the electronics that are in the breedlove so that is
not really a plus for me.

Thanks

keep in mind the Seagull has a wider neck than the standard. if you play
leads you might find a narrower neck to be more comfortable.

I had a seagull for 7+ years. the pros are... good tone, great projection.
the cons are, the wider neck... i would steer away from the cedar top. it
caused me lots of problems. it's a softer wood and can't handle long term
high tension.

I have a Seagull S6 and love the wider neck. It gives me lots more room to
work. I find the 1 11/16" necks commonly found on dreads to be quite
crowded. My Seagull's cedar top sounds very good, and hasn't given me a
moment's proplem. Granted, I don't use medium strings on it, but it's had
JP PB lights tuned to standard for about five years now with no problems.

YMMV

it depends on playing style for sure. I use medium strings, and I play a
lot of leads, and I "twang" the stings, which adds extra pressure. the
cedar top couldn't handle it.

as far as the wider neck goes, for some reason it just didn't work for me.
when I switched back to the standard dread, I felt like I was playing on a
stick of butter.

I think the Seagull is not for twangers who like to play leads. If you play
mostly chords and use light strings, you'll probably be fine.

I have a Breedlove, and I love it. I don't know anything about the
Seagulls.

Yeah, that's what I have. An Atlas AC25/SR Plus. And actually, the
first one I got had a buzz at the 3rd fret on the low E string and the
dealer just swapped the whole guitar for a new one, and I've been
happy with it. Great value for the money.

I have noticed that the bass strings on the last two guitars I bought are a
bit low.

Personally I love both of my Breedlove's, one of which is an Atlas 12
string.

Another one to consider though is my wife's guitar. A Martin 000X1. It
cost about $500 and plays and sounds better than many guitars I have
played that cost three times as much.

I doubt that there are any significant differences between the
two (You take Sally, and I'll take Sue, there ain't no difference
between the two). Play them both, buy the one you like.
