I've been asked, by the parent of a student who tried my 1967 Guild F212
and loved it, for a recommendation for a 12-string acoustic guitar that
won't break the budget. I'd appreciate recommendations.

Thanks.

"The budget" is a little ambiguous. $600.00? $1600.00?

It was to me, too, so I asked, and was told $500.

That is about what I paid for my Guild F212. It's a 1968 and sounds
terrific.

I have a Washburn WD10S12 that I am quite fond of. I bought one of these decades ago, sold it after fifteen years or so, missed it and after a few years bought another one. Solid spruce top. There is currently one on sale on Amazon for about $240, and Amazon offers used ones starting around $150.

This one is a steal at $200, assuming it's in decent condition. I have one
just like it.

You might also look at the new Alvarez 12-string models. Prices vary
wildly, but Bill's Music seems to be lowest on these.

Just thought I should mention that there is a Blueridge BR-140-12, all solid wood, on sale for $655, free shipping

http://www.maurysmusic.com/inc/sdetail/blueridge_br_140_12/103165

I got a chance to play one of these when they were first introduced, found it very responsive, and liked it a lot.
